In this paper I will discuss the many ethical concerns regarding the new biotechnological advancements of cloning. There currently have been three types of mammals cloned. Should humans follow? That is exactly what I will explore in my report.
Should We Clone Humans? .
There are many opportunities that will come with cloning. Babies born without heretic diseases, elderly people being able to fix the problems that come with aging and helping leukemia victims or burn victims grow new marrow or skin. However, these opportunities come with very high risks. With any genetic alterations, you run the risk of creating something worse off than the original. Possibly even a threat to society. .
By cloning animals, scientists are posing opportunities to cure world hunger, increase the success of the agriculture industry, and gain more knowledge on genetic alterations. In the late 1990's, scientists cloned a lamb later named Dolly. It was indicated that it took 277 failures until a live birth was achieved. Similar mortality rates would raise major questions if cloning were ever to be considered with humans. .
If we were to clone humans, what do you suppose their lives would be like? Would they be accepted into society as "normal" or would they be outcasts and be treated as property? I personally feel that if we were to clone humans, they would be treated as property. Bought, sold, and traded. Used as a means to an end. Parents would use them to aid their human children with no thought to the impact on the clone. They would be more like androids in human bodies. In many ways just as the slaves were in the early 20th century. Dr. Donald Bruce, of the Church of Scotland, says: " I and most people in the Church of Scotland would certainly agree that on principle, to replicate any human technologically is something with goes against the basic dignity of the uniqueness of each human being in God's sight. Christians would see this as a violation of the uniqueness of a human life, which God has given to each of us and to no else.
