Special Education


            My Interview was with a woman who has been in education for over 20 years. Her name is Stephanie Tennille and she has had experience in many areas of education and has continued her education to do so. .
             First I interviewed Mrs. Tennille with the questions from the Other Specialist column. Her answers were given based off of her current position as a Technical Staff Support teacher at Espiranza Elementary School as well as a counselor part time there. Stephanie also works at another campus in Anthem as a full time counselor. The questions are as listed below with her answers.
             1.What is your role at Espiranza?.
             A- Stephanie assists teachers with integrating technology into their curriculum. For example, use of the Internet. She finds units that fit with their lesson plan and the students. The are divided into cooperative groups to study specific topics about the subject of study and they prepare a power point presentation. She is also a part time counselor there on campus and has one day a week where she schedules her lessons with children.
             2. How many children do you see per week?.
             A- Stephanie works with both the teacher and students. She works with grades 3-6, which includes approximately 3-400 students, or about half of the school.
             3. What paperwork is involved with your job?.
             A- Stephanie does lesson planning with the teachers and she also helps with planning individual lesson plans for students with special needs. She keeps a log of all the work that actually gets done. .
             4. What has frustrated you through the years?.
             A- As far as her technology role she said that the most frustrating thing is equipment doesn't work efficiently and there is a lot of computer breakdowns. There is a security system that hasn't worked at all this year and that is frustrating. .
             5. What are the greatest rewards of being a Technology specialist or counselor?.
             A-The best part about being a specialist is that she gets to reap the benefits of working with the teachers and the students.
