By examining the way people interact with each other on various levels it is easy to learn important skills that will help me relate to the people I meet in the workplace as well as throughout my life. The past is also a valuable resource for the future, in that by studying past cultures and their customs I can gain valuable insights into human nature. Different people come from different backgrounds, and because of this it is impossible to treat everyone the same. Instead it is useful to have an understanding of many cultures and societies in order to relate to a variety of people. .
As a future teacher, I will be dealing with all sorts of children from various of backgrounds, and thus will need to be equipped with a strong knowledge of sociology and anthropology. Because I do not know what type of environment I will be working in as an elementary education teacher, it is crucial that I am prepared to deal with any and all types of people. For example, if I worked in school that contained mostly students from the lower end of the socioeconomic scale, I would need to understand where they were coming from, figuratively and literally. If I judged everyone on the same scale, it would be easy to make mistakes and hurt people's feelings, something a teacher certainly does not want to do. .
As a professional, it is an unwritten rule that one must have a high enough level of maturity and knowledge to be able to deal with many different types of people without bias. For example, if I was dealing with a child who was having academic problems, and that child was coming from a harmonious home with two able, caring, resourceful parents, I would treat the situation differently than if I were dealing with a child with a single mother who worked three jobs and was hardly ever at home to represent any significant presence in the child's life. The first student would enable me to give him or her lengthy assignments to take home and go over with his or her parents, and I could be reasonably sure that this would be done.
