The milk she produces is not sufficient for her five offsprings, and it is necessary for her to stay in the den and feed them. This creates a dilemma, she can't leave them and if she stays she will starve to death making it essential for her mate to provide for her. He stays with her and helps to raise their young. Unfortunately this practice of monogamy is only practiced until the kits get old enough to wonder away form the den into the real world. The warbler along with other species the " females mated to "lesser males" seek extrapair matings, but females mated to "high-quality" males don't wander, apparently because they already have the best genes on the block. Women no longer could carry their young on their backs and were now forced to care their young in their arms.
