Missing Link

The development of man and his history has been a controversial topic between the creationists and evolutionists. Did the origins of hominids evolve over time from hominoids, or is this just a misconception? Charles Darwin advocated the idea of natural selection with his book he Origin of Species. With the publishing of his book many received a shocking proposal that man may have descended from a more primitive being. Although this idea was not totally innovative, the concept had never took on so much controversy. With the idea spreading of the possibility that man came from beast many questions began to surface. One such obvious question centered on the findings of intermediate life forms. The claim to descent with modification could hold strong if the missing link between man and ape could be discovered. .
With the charge to locate the evolutionary stages and human ancestors many scientist took to the field to locate these links. With these discoveries, the question to prove or disprove this hypothesis could be strengthened. Discoveries of the Java Man and the Peking Man led to a new species deemed, Homo erectus. This species was believed to be the missing link that was needed to answer the question. However, debate regarding the validity of the new findings was soon to follow.
After the publication of the rigin of Species Eugene Dubois went in search of the missing link needed to strengthen Darwin theory. Dubois set his sights on the country of Java. It was here that Dubois was able to discover a skull cap and thigh bone in 1981. These bones were later deemed the Java Man. The fossils of the Java Man were older than any previous discoveries up to that time. Nearly a hundred years later the discovery of a similar being was found in Beijing, China. Chinese scientists were able to unearth 14 similar skulls in the 1920 that resembled the fossils located by Dubois. These skulls came to be known as the Peking Man.
