The Lure Of The Unknown

Entering the organization, I immediately felt that Healthlinks was a high-class facility. Around town there are other clubs such as the YMCA and Muscles in Motion, but those organizations are often looked at as run down. Healthlinks is clearly of a different nature. The facility is perfectly arranged and sparklingly from start to finish. Healthlinks is an exclusive club; the cost to attend is nearly fifty dollars per month, before considered for entrance a one-on-one tour of the building is required, and any person under the age of thirteen is not eligible for membership. Besides the feeling of belonging to a select society, members that go to Healthlinks also experience a warming sense of community. In addition to the "best healthcare in the area", the Foxcare center offers numerous offices directly outside of the Healthlinks club. The fact that members need only walk down a hallway to receive additional professional care greatly adds to the attraction of Healthlinks, and the club's affiliation with the town hospital only betters the glow around the name of the facility. Who would not want to belong to Healthlinks?.
             Dry Landers versus the Wet.
Inside the club itself, however, the sense of community quickly dissipates. Members are discretely distinguished as either belonging to the dry fitness group, or the assemblage of those who utilize the water areas. I found the swimmers to have a greater sense of individuality in respect to the members who took advantage of the machines on the fitness floor, and such attitudes of independence linked each swimmer in a sort of secret society. For days I observed the wet area of Healthlinks. Although not glaringly evident, the very assemblage of Healthlinks creates a fissure between the members of the club. The swimming section, for instance, is located in the back of the club. It is removed from the action of being situated near the door of the facility, and to intensify this fact, it is completely enclosed within a glass room.
