Kim

Kim has a simple mind and by being in the midst of nature and seeing the world as one entity that includes all, Kim's mind is able to find his identity.
Kim then continues to describe the truth that he sees:.
bustling and shouting, the buckling of belts, and beating of bullocks and creaking of wheels, lighting of fires and cooking of food, and new sights at every turnoff the approving eye. (62).
Kim perceives movement and chaos, noise and action as his truth. He needs constant commotion around him in order to enter a refreshing state. "India [is] awake, and Kim [is] in the middle of it, more awake and more excited than anyone." (62). Kim is an active person; he could not be locked up in a catholic school all day while having others impose their beliefs on him. Kim loves nature and the outdoors, he loves these surroundings and only in this state, his natural state, could he find his true identity.
Now that Kim is in his state of truth, he realizes who he is: "He [is] the disciple of a holy man annexed by a strong-willed old lady" (63). One sentence describes who Kim believes himself to be. Kim does not lead a complex life, he needs to find one identity and stay with it. He could not be a spy who leads a life of duplicity and he could not have others with mixed cultures and beliefs take the part of his mentor. When Kim is with the lama, he simplifies his life and has the opportunity to appreciate nature and goodness. He leads a simple life looking for his Red Bull on the Green Grass while the lama searches for the River of the Arrow. They have one mission in life and stick to it, without distractions from the outside world.
