Arthurian Romances

Sometimes it may have been to impress or protect a woman, other times it may have been to defend your own honor. I think the themes in this story still apply today but in a different sense. Although people now don't physically fight as much as back then, we have to make similar sacrifices. .
I enjoyed this story mainly because of the fighting scenes. I felt that those were the parts that the author spent the most time describing and it was easy to get a good image of what was happening. I learned more about the attitude that knights may have had towards certain matters. I think that we are reading this book because it the time period when it was written gives us a different perspective and attitude towards things that we may not have thought about before. The quote on page 92 shows the thanks that people show for being saved and their profession of service towards their hero. "What good fortune, fair gentle lord, sent you to me here, so that by your prowess you freed me from the hands of my enemies? My lord, I wish to pay you homage: I shall go with you evermore and serve you as my liege lord.".
The Knight of the Cart is the story of Lancelot. His loyalty to King Arthur and Queen Guinevere is shown when Lancelot sets out on a journey to find the lost queen. During his search he comes across Meleagant, the son of King Bademagu. Meleagant is responsible for the Queen's kidnapping. Kay is the knight that first stole the Queen from King Arthur, but ended up losing her in the woods. Gawain was the original knight who set out to look for the Queen. .
The literary devices put to use in this story are symbolism and irony. Towards the end of the story the Queen tells Lancelot to intentionally do poorly in the tournament which is totally against what knights believe. Lancelot shows his loyalty to the Queen by risking his reputation and doing poorly, and then winning the tournament for the Queen once she allows him to try his best.
