Theft And Larceny In The Workplace

.
Floor employees are the workers who make up the general business operation for customers in places like department stores and grocery stores. Floor employees include cashiers, sales people, and even security guards. The cashier has access to anything from the cash drawer, to the pricing system, to rolled coins. The sales people are there to sell products. Some salespeople have the job of operating the sales terminal, which gives them opportunities to modify sales receipts and prices. The security guard has the job of making sure that merchandise does not pass any exits without being paid for. According to the occurrences of theft covered in the news media, the employees in these positions tend to steal merchandise instead of money. .
One such example of this thieving behavior was displayed when a Kmart cashier was found giving merchandise to customers without scanning it. The cashier was also found changing prices on things as well. In another event, a security guard at Peachtree Mall in Columbus Georgia was caught in a scheme to loot a department store, when he allowed a group of people to steal store merchandise. The two women made two trips casually strolling through the store. They walked out with thousands of dollars worth of clothing as the security guard used the video surveillance system to help them steal the merchandise.
Another group of employees known for performing money draining schemes are the service writers/technicians. These are the people who go around fixing equipment such as computers and copy machines. Service writers have the job of ordering new equipment and writing work orders for external help on maintenance jobs. Where some service technicians have unrestricted ordering power, they may order something extra that is not needed so that they can take it home. The service technicians are usually trusted with their work, and are relied upon to keep the organization's equipment running.
