Decisions

Young adults, especially those in their last few years of high school, are faced with many tough decisions that they must make about their future. There are many issues that high school seniors have to deal with before finalizing a decision regarding college. One of these major decisions is whether to live at home or to move out of the house and live on one's own. This decision is an important one and might be a hard one to make. Living independently is a completely different experience from living at home. The seriousness of the decision is due largely in part to financial issues, emotional attachment to familiar people, and responsibility for oneself. .
First and foremost, the financial issue should be considered. Location is important in this regard. The decision to choose to go to a far away college versus one nearby is made by considering several factors. It is obviously cheaper to live at home where one does not have to pay for room and board. Granted, some parents might make their college students pay rent for living in their house, but usually this does not happen. Parents also will purchase food for the entire family, and college students will not have to spend money on feeding themselves. However, when ones live on one's own, he/she does not have these privileges. Renting an apartment is also rather costly. In addition, one would have to cook for themselves to save funds because eating out every day can add up to a large amount of money. The financial situations of living at home versus living independently become serious issues when considering one's options. .
The second difference between living at home and moving out is the emotional attachment to familiar people. If one decides to live at home, that person will be staying with family whom he/she has grown up knowing. This can be rather comforting to some young adults. By way of contrast, moving out and into a dormitory environment can be rather upsetting at first.
