Crimes And Misdemeanors

Judah's brother Jack hires a contract killer to "get rid" of Delores, his mistress. .
Though, in the end Judah gives Clifford a movie idea, where he actually comes to grip with the truth, so he can finally get it off his chest, Judah is still lacking integrity. Carter's point where honesty and integrity differ very much is proven in both of these examples. Those Judah's lack of integrity, and sometimes lack of honesty is very clear, another character in the movie was not so obviously clear.
Clifford, an aspiring director with no job, a struggling marriage and a niece that looks up to him in many ways seems to be lacking both honesty and integrity in most cases as well. Though throughout the movie, he is honest with his opinions of Lester, his brother-in-law as being a pompous ass, and is also honest with his opinions on life when expressing them to his niece he has a few lies of his own, Clifford gains a love interest, while still being married, and then cheats on his wife with her. For a person who is always talking about morals and honesty, Clifford doesn't "practice what he preaches". Clifford, also like Judah lacks integrity. Carter says that when he refers to integrity, it "requires three steps: discerning what is right and what is wrong; acting on what you have discerned, even at personal cost; and saying openly that you are acting on your understanding of right and wrong (Carter 16). An obvious example of when Clifford acted without integrity was when he made his final edit on the biography he filmed on Lester. Though Clifford was being honest with all the points he brought up in the film, he made fun of Lester by using a talking donkey in place of him, portraying Lester as an ass. Clifford honestly felt that Lester was an ass, but knew it wasn't right to make the film like that. The result of him making that film was he getting fired, not getting paid and screwing up his marriage even more than it was.
