Child Importance

From my personal childhood, being raised by a single parent, one might crave for more attention than a parent can give them. With the problems that may arise with the parents children, they seek advice from others. Almost like everyone else seems to know your child better, and give advice to accommodate the situation. Making the problem more complex than what it needs to be. The complex problem could easily be avoided be simply sitting down to talk with their adolescent. Parents are so worried about being a good parent and doing what's best for their child, that they sometimes don't consider the child themselves. Of course they couldn't consider their child's feelings, because children aren't suppose to have complex problems. They don't have to pay bills, stress out from their job, and deal with children when they get home. "It is almost cliché for a teenager in the U.S. to feel that "no one understands me- (Psychology 113). When the teenager ends up committing suicide or shooting at a bully, who should be blamed? Definitely not the parents, because they knew their child's feelings, and knew what they were capable of doing. The parents don't know the obvious signs, because they are too concentrated on being hard on their children, and or avoiding their child. Parents need to give their children self esteem. "Esteem is not love, but respect; respect for competence, mastery, and ability- (Spitzer 78). .
Parents have more responsibilities than putting food on the table and clothing them until they are 18. They also have to be their child's counselor, and be there for them throughout their lives. " Adolescents whose parents are authoritative-not rigidly authoritarian but accepting, warm, democratic, and firm- achieve more in school than their peers- ( Psychology 116). Yelling at a child, and putting them down to do well is not the approach parents should take. Adolescents are children in a way.
