In “Trifles”, Mrs. Wright lived an unhappy life. She was married to her household duties rather than to her husband. The things that she did in her daily routine were never appreciated and were considered ‘trifles’. Mrs. Wright didn’t have much to call her own, not even her own life. ing so unhappy she, metaphorically speaking, lived like her bird that she called her own. By killing her husband, Mrs. Wright was making the decision to leave her caged life and marriage rather then stay trapped and unhappy.

This was the reality of life in the Shakespearean age. Life was not fair and if you wanted freedom to marry who you loved then you had to run away. The interesting twist to all of this was the fact that you had fairies to help make those who belonged together actually fall in love. The concept of magic does not portray how life really was in this day in age.

Women were given a husband to be without any choice. If the woman actually loved the man you were arranged to marry, than you should be considered lucky. Women in general had a lack of power in society are you always subject to what a man’s say rather than make a decision on their own. In “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” the women were able to change from reality to fantasy as they went from Athens to the woods. As for “Trifles,” Mrs. Wright didn’t have much choice to her happiness.
