Yes To Cloning!
Imagine being able to add 50 years to your life. First you may be thinking, “Why would I do that? I’d be in horrible shape and everything would stop working!” Well that is until scientists are able to successfully use cloning to advance medicine into the future. Scientists have been toying for years with the idea of isolating cells to create embryos for a number of different purposes. Yet why is it that, after all this time spent and research conducted, we aren’t utilizing the full medical potential of science? Because many people are against, or scared of, any type of “futuristic” science no matter how beneficial it may be. However, cloning it seems, is only full of positive effects and endless possibilities. Cloning isn’t all about creating “superbabies” with genetically superior structures or about having identical octuplets walking around our planet. It’s about medically advancing our population to keep up with our changing environment. One of the many great possibilities of cloning is disease treatment. According to an article in the Roanoke Times, author Kevin Miller’s research on cloning and stem cells provides the evidence that these medical breakthroughs are quite possible:
In order to utilize these stem cells, a skin cell (or any cell for that matter, seeing as how every cell in our body carries genetic material) is injected into a woman’s egg, and from greatly outweigh the issue of medical research on an embryo that is created for that purpose only and wouldn’t have been brought into existence otherwise. that egg, an embryo is created (Donn). It is these embryonic stem cells that hold so much potential for our future. Imagine if instead of watching a loved one suffer and die from AIDS, cancer or any one of a massive number of diseases, we could find the cause of these ailments and test possible cures. But instead, we are faced with a “moral minefield”, where any direction scientists turn they must deal with controversy surrounding their research. All the while, that potentially life saving research is being held off as we debate on just how far science should be allowed to go. bout 2 years ago, stem cells could be the future in disease treatment. Scientists believe they can guide stem cells to become insulin producer cells for diabetes, new tissue for people suffering from muscular disorders, including heart disease, and a host of other body part affected by the disease. Therapies and products derived from stem cells could The cloning of endangered species has so much less controversy surrounding it, but why? The exact same process is used of creating an embryo to bring life to a population that faces extinction. Yet, isn’t that exactly what scientists have been trying to do with human cloning? Why is it that society finds it acceptable to “play God” in creating animal embryos and then proceed to run tests upon them? In the long run, cloning offers endless possibilities for us to grab a hold of. Yet every great plan seems to
