Lucille Ball

If you have ever watched the I love Lucy Show, then you definitely know Lucille Ball. The shows re-runs are still watched by people all over the world. This famous actress accomplished many things in her lifetime and is widely respected. She came from an unwealthy family in New York, and by the age of 35 was one of the wealthiest women alive. Despite all of her hardships, Lucille kept moving forward to bring laughter to the homes of families worldwide.

Lucille Ball was born on the 6th of August in 1911. From the time she was born, she was called by her nickname “Lucy”. She came from a suburb of Jamestown NY, where her father was a telephone lineman for the Bell Company. Lucille moved often due to her fathers job. During her mother’s pregnancy with her younger brother Frederick, Lucy’s father contracted typhoid fever and died in February of 1915. Lucille was only four years old when her father died, which made her later years of childhood harder on her mother. After her father’s death, Lucille, her mother, and her brother Frederick all moved in with Lucy’s grandparents. Her grandfather greatly enjoyed plays and shows and they attended them often. He encouraged Lucy to join the plays and drama clubs at her high school


I Love Lucy was the very first television show to air a pregnant woman. When Lucy got pregnant with their second child, Dezi Arnaz junior, CBS didn’t know what to do because they couldn’t just stop the show. So they decided to film her entire pregnancy up until the time she delivered. This is now considered a very famous episode, along with the one where she tells “Ricky” that she is pregnant. Once Lucy and Desi had two children to take care of in 1957, they changed the format of the show so they could be parents to their children. The show then aired once a month for an hour and was renamed the “Lucille Ball-Desi Arnaz Show”. The show ran from 1957 to 1960, during which time the marriage fell apart and television’s most beloved couple divorced. In October of 1960, Lucy starred in a Broadway musical called “Wildcat”. Although the musical was not an acclaimed hit, they sold out every show because Lucille Ball starred in it. In 1961 in Novembe,r Lucy married a comedian by the name of Gary Morton.

Lucy is one of America’s most beloved women of television. She has won many awards in her time including four Emmys and five motion picture awards. Lucille Ball died on April 26, 1989 in Los Angeles CA, due to complications with heart surgery. She was buried next to her mother in Hollywood. Lucy is known as a famous comedian all over the world.
