Moving to Canada

As I enter my new and the much proclaimed great life in Canada I find many of the Canadian customs and traditions are very different than my own. Personally I still do not feel that it was right leaving you behind in Guatemala while I come to live with my cousins. Although we are related by blood we re very different culturally. He often does not even show me how to fit in. Toronto is a big city and it is very hard to find your way around.
The first day of the new school year was a disaster! Everyone knew other people except me. In fact, I couldn't even find my classes. If you think this was not bad enough kids that I do not know decided it was their right to make fun of what I eat and what I wear. My relatives (new family) offered to make me something "normal" to eat but I always thought Canada was full of culture. For obvious reasons I was wrong, and for that my food has been deemed "gross" and my clothes "ugly". Considering that I thought this was the land of great opportunities, with the most culturally diverse society, I must say it is a disappointment.
After my first day of school I never thought I would see another kid like me. As it turns out there is a whole group of students attending the same school as me that are in the same situation. They all look different, talk different and eat different things. I even take one of my classes with them, ESL. ESL is a program for students that are new to the country and want to learn English. I understand it but I still am not that great at writing this foreign language. Honestly, it is not easy to learn English, but, it is comforting knowing that other kids are going through the same thing as me. .
There are many religions in Canada that I have never even heard about. Just yesterday it was the Jewish holiday oh Yom Kippur, their new year. I believe I am fortunate because I am catholic and a fair number of people are catholic in this region.

There was a major crisis at hand, yesterday.
