Ferris Bueller - A Social-Cognitive Approach

Ferris Bueller was a high school senior, played by Matthew Broderick. He is about 18 years old in the movie and his wardrobe is very 80's. Starting with his sparkling white oxfords, his patterned pants, to his leopard vest topped with his gray and beige leather jacket. He has thick short brown hair and a devious smile that will get you every time. He is between 5'6 to 5'7, what I would like to call fun-sized. Everybody loved Ferris, he was a natural sweetheart and he got along with everyone. He lived in a family- oriented community; you know - the neighborhoods where everybody knows everybody. Since he was a master at tactical advantage, Ferris learned how to work his way into situations and smoothly get himself out. By watching his surroundings he comes up with a mischievous and sophisticated plan to get his day off from school. .
Ferris tended to stop to talk to the audience watching the film as he went on to provide the audience with his commentary on what he thinks of the situation or what he thinks should happen. In the beginning he states, .
"The key to faking out the parents is the clammy hands. It's a good non-specific symptom; I'm a big believer in it. A lot of people will tell you that a good phony fever is a dead lock, but uhyou get a nervous mother, you could wind up in the doctor's office. That's worse than school. You fake a stomach cramp, and when you are bent over moaning and wailing, you lick your palms. It's a little childish and stupid, but then, so is high school." With this being said Ferris knew how to manipulate people very easily, he got the things he wanted by being sneaky. He can outsmart people around him. With his parents working all the time, Ferris has the time to observe and realize that it will be easier to persuade them because they will have to go to work that morning because it is so sudden. He knows that they will not stay home because he is a teenage boy with a stomach cramp, nothing to make a big deal about.
