The movie
The movie “O” puts the Shakespeare play Othello onto the big screen in a greatrepresentation for today’s audience. It is a great representation that we can all recognize with because the situation is something that we could see happening in today’s culture. The creators took an old English set play that would be set in a battle field and turned it into an American prep school mostly set around basketball. The main character in “O” is Odin James a star basketball player representing Othello from the Shakespeare play. Odin faces many challenges in his life making him an unstable person who is easily influenced. Odin James is the only black kid at Charleston Prep school an upper class white school where Odin was recruited to play basketball but otherwise is an outcast there. He is not from the same upbringing as all the other kids at this school coming out of a middle to lower class black neighborhood. Although having many friends at this school and being the star basketball player he is faced with a lot of pressures to fit in. Also along with trying to fit in with kids at his school now he is also being highly recruited from college scouts who are at every game watching
Odin breaking down is when he is first accused by Desi’s father the principle of the school the one he loved in a rage of passion and also to kill himself cause he felt like he had no himself so he can be with Desi again the one who truly loved him for who he was. Charleston Prep school and because of he started to break down mentally. Hugo used his unstableness and weakness to influence him to do anything he wanted and to believe The only thing that he feels is true to him no matter what is his girlfriend Desi who he is in
