Giving God A Break
In the past five decades, humans have made a big advancement in science and technology. We have had big accomplishments in the advancement of computers, medicine, Weapons of mass destruction and most importantly biotechnology. However, the area that has brought a great deal of concern and curiosity is genetics. Starting from unlocking the secrets of DNA, then the human genome project, all this goes so far to been able to design ones own child. There have been questions on whether it is a good or bad thing to we have the power to manipulate genes. For centuries, mankind has manipulated genetics to ensure the passing on and strengthening of desirable traits in animals and plants. Humanity has seen many benefits from the understanding and properly using genetics. However, because of the greediness and curiosity that human beings have, scientists have decided to take the creation of man away from the hands of God. This procedure is called cloning. A clone refers to one or more offspring derived from a single ancestor, whose genetic composition is identical to that of the ancestor. However, everyone around the world are baffled by this. People are mostly worried on the negative effects it would have. In addtion,
Cloning of humans can also bring about emotional problems. When one sees their clone grow, they see themselves growing up again. What happens when a man sees his wives clone at her early twenties? He makes him remember the young woman he fell in love with. There is no doubt that he would be attracted to the clone sexually. A sexual relationship would of course be with his wife's twin. Therefore, it cat be called incest. What if the clone is a replacement of a dead family member? If the child knows it is the twin of a dead brother or sister. What kind of pressures will he or she feel, knowing they were made as a direct replacement for another? The child would feel like he is no good, and he just to bring back memories of a lost one. This could later turn into psychological problems. In addition, one can never know what kind of psychological problems a cloned child would have. Both psychologists and psychiatrists have noted that a cloned child would definitely have emotional problems and what the child would do to suppress these emotions is unknown. The people who are in support of cloning say it is a good thing because it could bring the cures of different fatal diseases. In addition, the possibility of producing not a complete body but just an organ to save the life of a human being who requires the transplant of that organ. Even though those are good things and something the people would like to see. However, the first question that crosses the minds of people against cloning humans is that, is this act of tampering with Mother Nature ethical. Is it morally okay? Even though some people believe it is a needed and beneficial step. I do not see why anyone would even consider cloning another person, producing a human being by replication rather than reproduction. In my opinion, apart fo
