THE RELATIONSHIPS ABOUT COMMUNICATION and CULTURE BETWEEN UN

In the United States there are many people who know how to speak different languages because they emigrated from different countries. Language is the basis of any culture, so if you take away the language you take away the culture. It is this loss of language that has taken today's generations from their traditions and culture. Culture is the belief or behavior of a particular society and the way of life of its people. In addition, culture also is the training, development, refinement of mind, tastes, manners, and all other products of human work and thought. How do you communicate with people who have different cultures? Culture and communications are always connected because if we understand the culture, it helps us to more easily communicate with the people. Therefore, the relationship between communications and culture is very important. There are several differences between the United States and Vietnam including; religion, relationships, education, family dysfunction, and education in family value.

Vietnam, where I was born and raised, is a country rich in resources and it is inundated with tradition. We have a small population and most people are Buddhists. They believe the Buddha is a deity, and those who have

In the United States when people date they do not need go to see the parents first. Possibly after the fourth or fifth date if they decided that they like each other, they will introduce their parents. Vietnam is so different, as they must be introduced on the first date. If the parents of him or her do not like he or she, the parents will not allow them to date even if they really like each other. Women that are raised in the country in Vietnam are a little different than those that are raised in the city. They are more withdrawn and shy, and usually do not make the first move in starting a relationship. If a young man finds someone he likes, he must formally introduce himself to her family and seek their approval before he can date her. This usually requires him to meet with her parents and family members in their house several times. After several regular visits, when he has gotten know her family, he may finally ask her parents for permission to date her. (Dating in Vietnam 1) For example, when I was 16 years old, I liked a girl who was in my class at school. She was a perfect lady in my class and she was very cute. One day, I asked her go to the park on Sunday and she said she would have to ask for her parent’s permission. While she asked her parents they naturally wanted to meet me. She invited me to her house and introduced me to her parents. She knew if she did not follow the tradition that her parents would not let her go on a date with me. On the day of reckoning, her parents asked me so many questions about my family, my school, my friends, and myself. So, I was afraid very much that they would not approve. In the end, her parents let she go with me. After that, I never asked her to date again simply because that I was afraid of her parents. In that time, it was also traditional for the parents of the young lady to call the parents of the young man to discuss the situation of son and daughter. Naturally, her parents called my parents and discussed our situation.

The role of children varies with the age differences. The eldest son’s role is to replace a deceased father. To be responsible for protecting the name and reputation of the family for the sake of the living as well the dead. The second one is from early childhood Vietnamese people are taught to think deeply before speaking or, as noted by a well-know Vietnamese proverb, “to open his mouth only when asked to and to answer only when beckoned to.” The third one is that children must respect and obey their parents and the elder sibling without questioning. (Vietnamese Culture 4) In Vietnam, the Vietnamese family is an extended family, three or four generations may live together and the Vietnamese immediate family would have husband, wife, children, husband’s parents, son wives and children. The husband and wife relationship is that the wife should listen and obey her husband without questioning.

There are also five things that we should remember not to do. The first one is that parents sometimes do not respect their children when they provide information or attempt to voice their opinions. Secondly, it is very important to never mention issues regarding the government or the law. The third thing is to never reveal that you are knowledgeable in speaking the English language. The fourth thing is not send them to the priest, pastors, and monks right away and the last thing is not provide the client with too many caseworkers. The cultures in these two nations are completely different from one another. The Vietnamese people are the last natural human people in the world, that may or may not exactly true, but the Vietnamese people certainly do possess a cultural richness and diversity rarely seen in even the most ancient of nations. Most important though, Vietnamese people are the exceptionally attractive, culturally diverse, and hospitable people that still light up at the sight of foreigners. Other liabilities, however, mak
