The American Ladder of Success

Throughout history the ladder of success has increased in size and is becoming harder and harder to climb, although the basics to climbing it have not. To get to the top of the success ladder in this country, a person needs to have an overall understanding on how to handle themselves in this world, have a desire, motivation, determination. I believe with these basic fundamental, a person will become successful in today's society.
Before a person begins climbing the ladder they must have a general knowledge or common sense, on how to handle themselves in the world. Because without this common sense, how would a person know what to do in certain situations? They would not. For example, when there is more traffic than usual on the road and a person is in a hurry to get somewhere, they do not want to sit and wait, so they will just go whenever they think they have room. This in most cases is when they have the least room. So without this common sense, all the person's desire, motivation and determination goes out the window. They will not know how to handle themselves in the real world and will not get anywhere without it.
Having a desire to succeed is essentially the first step in climbing the ladder of success. If a person has no desire to succeed, they will be stuck at the bottom of the ladder with no hope of ever reaching the top. This all depends on the person's attitude toward life. If they are born and raised in the ghetto or slums, generally, a person will have no desire to get past that. There are some cases where the person will be determined to get out. The same goes for people in the upper class of society. They may be born into a rich family and have the desire to carry on that tradition of being rich. They may also just be forced into it and have no desire to continue it. Without that desire they will get nowhere.
To get to the next step of the ladder of success, a person must be motivated to do so.
