In the past the American dream of success affected the people the same way it does now; people strive to achieve everything possible. For example, in the 1800's the gold rush took place in America. Every one was running around looking for gold to make money. Today’s society is basically the same way. Most people are looking for ways to become successful in life.

Although most Americans are trying to succeed, not many come out the way they hoped. However there are some people that meet the American dream of success. An example of one of these people is Walt Disney. Walt was born on December 5, 1901 in Chicago, Illinois. When he was little, Walt would entertain his friends with drawings he made and comedy skits (Katherine M. 1). As most people know Walt grew up to be very successful with his drawings and cartoons. After all that Disney had accomplished and created, he was diagnosed with lung cancer. He was given six months to live but was in need of medical attention just two weeks later. On December 14, 1966. Disney was in his studio and asked to have his bed raised up so that he can see Disney studios that were nearby through his window. One day later, December 15, 1966, Disney died (Harmon 4).

In the 1940's, Disney noticed that many amusements parks were not a nice place to be as they were dirty and kept in bad condition. He also noticed that amusement parks were mainly focused on little kids and gave nothing for adults to do. After seeing this, Disney wanted to make an amusement that would be kept in excellent condition and offer many interests that families could come to and enjoy together (Katherine M. 3).

He would draw pictures of farm animals and pictures of what it was like to live in Missouri (Burdick 1). While Disney was attending high school he attended after school drawing classes at the Academy of Fine Arts (Katherine M. 1). All of this drawing led Disney to become very skilled and he then got a position as a cartoonist in Kansas City, Missouri. This is also where Disney found his working partner, Ube Iwerks. Together they started their own cartoon business but closed it shortly after, because they only received one job (Harmon 2).

Now that Disney followed his instincts and went on with the construction of the park, he had to find a location for it. After searching, Disney purchased 160 acres of land in Anaheim, California. Due to the large amount of money required for the amusement park, Disney signed a contract with ABC to do a television program every week in return for money to fund his amusement park (Katherine M. 3).
