Thomas Jefferson Biography
Thomas Jefferson was inaugurated on March 4, 1801 andwas the third person to serve as the president of the United States. “Long Tom” Jefferson, as he was sometimes called, stepped up to his role as president and brought along with him a new feeling of democracy. Federalism was kicked to the curb; never to be seen again in a president. Jefferson was born in Virginia and stood at an impressive height of six feet two and a half inches. He had prominent cheekbones and chin, large hands and feet, and red hair which earned him the nickname “the Red Fox” Jefferson was an open-minded man but believed himself to have an undistinguished appearance and a weak voice. He was a very casual man who was once reported to have received callers in his dressing gown and slippers. Jefferson was strong in his republican beliefs and he stood up for what he believed. His principles of government was that the will of the majority would always prevail, the will to be rightful must be reasonable, and that the minority possesses equal rights, which equal law must protect, and violation of them would be oppression.
