Learning new information is something most people do each day, but may not even notice. Daily learning includes information from news, work, family, friends, classmates and recreation. I found out it is much easier for me to learn and express myself on something I am truly interested in. This class has been a great opportunity for me to find out my overall ability of how I put an idea into action. Each assignment that I have finished has given me a better opportunity of recognizing different aspects of my life.I have always believed that I was behind in the game when it came to my studies. I would study and study and never achieve the success I would have thought. I know from studies throughout my life that a person’s learning style is usually a biological and developmental set of characteristics past down. Also, individual responses to learning can be affected by, intake of food or drink, time of day, mobility, sound, light, temperature, and seating preferences are biological, while motivation, responsibility (conformity), and need for structure or flexibility are thought to be sociological. This ties in with what Brail, Beasley; Dunn, Quinn, and Buchan (1997) summarizes by stating that the interaction of various environment
An outlined way for me to enhance myself would be to follow the proper steps to improving my life style. In the article written by Weddle, Himburg, and Collins (2002) they said it is beneficial for people to try a: “Professional Development Portfolio (PDP), because it places responsibility for learning, professional development and career direction on the individual” (p.2). I plan on using this process. PDP states that every person should first do some form of self-reflection, assessment and goal setting for themselves. By following this process I must keep my mind open to change all the time. Welcome it. Court it. It is only by examining and reexamining others, as well as, your own opinions and ideas can you process them. I plan on taking what I have learned already and applying it to my PDP process. I learned from my classmates some stress management skills and how they handled their stress, the steps they took to achieve it. I learned that some people perform a hard workout and others cry, scream or some other kind of emotion to allow the stress to be released from their body. I have also realized throughout this class, that I am a very emotional person and I do not think first, I react first. After reading some my classmate’s newsgroup posts, I tried some their ways before speaking and reacting, and they worked extremely well. Especially after the experience I had with my learning team members, if I had not learned to hold my tongue and to stay calm, who knows how much worse the situations could have amounted too.
