American people in general are simple folks, everyone wants his fair share of things. The unequal distribution of revenue is a complex problem with no simple answer. This problem, however, does not exist only in America, this problem also exist in European countries as well. Karl Marx, who is considered by The Wall Street Journal to be one of the three greatest modern thinkers, believed that class conflict is the key to human history. He stated that the bourgeoisie (capitalists who own the means to produce wealth) are in constant conflict with the proletariat (the exploited working class) and that the only way the struggle can end is for the working class unites against the bourgeoisie. Marx stated that this would be the only way that a classless society could be achieved. A society free of exploitation in which all individuals will work according to their abilities and receive according to their need is the ideal society . The possibility of this happening sometime in the nation's future is the only hope America possibly have of being a nation where all of mankind is truly considered equal. Until then we should support those who have striven in the past and those who still work to make the world a better place, such as Martin Luther King, Karl Marx, Bill Clinton, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. All people want to be treated fairly but it is up to America to make it happen.

Some may say discrimination in America is wide spread, but none more than the key minority groups, like the Arab, African, and Spanish Americans. In the wake of the events of 9/11/01, Arab Americans everywhere have been discriminated against and criticized by other Americans. Many law-abiding Arab citizens have been falsely accused of being a terrorist. Spanish American have been discriminated against also even though Mexico is the closest neighbor to America next to Canada. Jensen goes on to say that the country of Mexico shares a common border with the U.S. The border is two thousand miles long and runs from the pacific coast of California to Texas. Spanish Americans and most minority groups have had to struggle against discrimination ever since they first started to arrive. Lately, there has been a more concentrated effort to fight against injustices done to them(Jensen, Discrimination18).

In society today equality is not a reality. Government has little control over this problem; people who want to be discriminatory in one way or the other will be discriminatory. Two issues that are very hard to distinguish involving equality are equal opportunity and equal outcome.When one can say that people have had the chance to use and develop their natural abilities, they can conclude that equal opportunity is effective. Equal opportunity is quite simply a chance to achieve something, not a condition. For people to take advantage of opportunities, they need the resources necessary to develop their natural abilities. Equal opportunity is based on merit and skills. The issue of equal opportunity gives everyone the chance to do or be what he or she has worked hard for. Frankly, it makes everything fair.
