An objective writer can not put their personal beliefs, or prejudices in their writing to persuade a reader to feel a certain way about an issue. One example of this is when somebody writes about politics. A political analyst may talk about how a republican sponsored tax cut may only benefit the wealthy. What the analyst fails to say is the wealthy pay the majority of the taxes. This would not be objective since they did not list all of the facts from both points of view. Likewise, a reporter who covers a local sports team needs to be objective. For instance, if the team loses because of a specific mistake by a player, but the reporter writes about how bad officiating cost the team the game. The reporter has not been objective or honest because they let their prejudice for the team interferes with what really happened. Sometimes people will write about issues with their own biased opinion mixed in. To demonstrate, a doctor may write how abortion is not natural, and should be avoided. If the doctor did not tell the reader they are against abortion, they were not objective. Even if the writer has a strong opinion on either side of an issue, they should let all the facts be known and let their reader decide for them self.
