Jesus Christ Weather Tempter Sent Or Tempest Tossed
What does one think of when they hear the name Jesus Christ? An atheist might claim him to be a fairytale invented to keep people in line, a Muslim or Jewish person might acknowledge his historical existence yet deny him as the messiah, and a devout Christian might think him to be the messiah the man who saved our souls and the epitome of human perfection. After watching the movie “The Last Temptation of Christ,” Christ may be seen in a very different light. This light is a point of view that can bring controversy and inspire much thought and speculation. The story is one that starts off with Jesus who is making crosses for the Romans and he is despised for it, he is using his skill as a carpenter to make crosses for those who crucify his own people. We soon learn that he is plagued with voices as if he is being followed he feels as if he is being watched. He soon finds himself in a town where he comes upon Mary Magdalene a prostitute who Jesus has shared a past with. He resists temptation here, but soon he tells a monk of his imperfections. He claims himself to be a liar and a hypocrite whose only guiding force is fear. He sees a sign through a snake that appeared to him one night. He is told what it means is to spread what
he knows. Jesus becomes torn not knowing how he should handle himself and what path he takes. Enter Judas who was originally sent to kill Jesus but instead becomes intrigued with his mission and follows him. n condemn it so lividly when there is great value to the film both artistically and religiously. The story takes an unusual twist when Jesus is on the cross. In his delirium he is tempted one last time by a little girl who comes to him to take him down from the cross so that he may live the rest of his life happily. There is scene in which he and Mary Magdalene are married and have kids. At the end of his life his old disciples come and Judas reprimands him for not doing what should have been done for being selfish. Once he realizes the little girl is none other than Satan. At these he crawls from his bed to the top of a hill and begs forgiveness from god and with that it cuts to him dying on the cross. The direction in this movie was difficult this is because of a lack of funds. This difficulty however proved to make the movie that more intimate. The special effects were simple and the entire movie was filmed in one small town in Morocco. The simple special effects seemed to give the movie authenticity and the fact that one town had to become many made for tighter shots further adding an intimate feature to the movie. The movie was done in small crowds rather than the masses that you would see in other bible epic movies this is more historically accurate because people traveled by foot mostly everywhere there would not be such large crowds especially in many of the small cities Jesus traveled to. The music also lent a unique quality to the film. The score that was used added effects of confusion, anger, and un-worldliness. The creator of the movie seems to want to create a more human Jesus and I do think his intent was to arouse controversy in the end controversy is what rea! This movie in my eyes depicts Jesus in a way that I can’t help but feel is accurate. Jesus appears to be human and divine as the bible said he should be. F
