Communication

The communication exchange I chose to apply to a communication model is an argument held between two people on the reality TV show Real World. The two characters whom are involved in a confrontation are Stephen and Trista. Stephen and Trista are very fond each other they form an intimate bond on the show. Stephen sleeps with Trista every night. However when they go out together to clubs or parties Stephen is hooking up with other women. Meanwhile, Stephen is telling Trista he loves her. Trista takes that as "I"m in love with you". In the end Stephen tells her he meant he loves her like a friend and they are not at all monogamous. This scenario best describes the psychological model, whereby the sender sends a message that he believes to be clear to the sender who misconstrues the message, this model can also be vice versa. Ultimately a conversation must be held to clarify the message which needs to be heard.
The psychological model wasn't able to reveal the reasons in depth for which the receiver interprets a different message than what was intended. Sometimes there are emotional attachments to the sender such as love, which may allow the receiver to be blinded by love. Denial could also play a tremendous role when communicating. If a message is being encoded to a receiver whom fails to understand the message it may be because the receiver refuses to come to terms with the matter of the message. Failure to enunciate your words correctly may also prohibit the receiver from getting the intended message the receiver may mistake your words for foul or offensive terms. The manner in which the message is communicated makes a huge impact on how the message will be interpreted. If the sender/ receiver has a positive message yet states the message rudely or with an attitude the sender/receiver will immediately interpret the message wrongly or negatively.
The psychological model insists that accurate communication can not be made without the sender and receiver being on the same "page".
