A great amount of information that is found by animal testing is useless, a waste of money, time, and lives of innocent animals. On the other hand, research on animals is an important factor in understanding disease and developing ways to prevent it. Millions of people’s lives have been saved because of the efforts put forth in experimentation with the use of animals. Animals are sacrificing their lives for humankind, which they owe nothing. Every year about 60 to 100 million animals are used for experimental testing. Scientists use animals such as: birds, cats, dogs, guinea pigs, hamsters, monkeys, and rabbits (Why Vegan 13). Scientists study the animals to get a better understanding of the body functions. Animals are also used for the development of new drugs and surgical techniques (Singer 19). Biomedical research, toxicity testing, diagnosis of disease, and product safety are also part of the big world of experimentation (Catalano 29). Scientists believe that these experiments that are pursued on animals are the main staple in progression of human medicine, health and safety.
