Ego Tripping

            
             Supreme Beings are divinities whose nature reveals a unique quality of being generally, a transcendent spiritual power. A basis of the worship in a religion. The supernatural is something that has not been fully understood. But it is known as an overpower ruling above the people of the world. In her poem "Ego Tripping" Nikki Giovanni is referring to herself as a supernatural being by referring to explaining her affiliation with Jesus, Allah, and perfect divinity.
             Nikki Giovanni claimed herself to be Jesus after a self-transformation. Jesus is seen as the son of God in the Christian religion. A martyr that died for "God's People" so they can be saved. He is more like the symbol for the Christian religion. Often Jesus and God were seen as the same person. Nikki Giovanni stated "I turned myself into myself and was Jesus". With this statement Nikki Giovanni is implying that she went deep inside of her soul and sort of transformed herself spiritually. She created a new person in herself and it was brought to the outside. It was as if she was reincarnated into herself. The person that was brought out was Jesus because Jesus must have been in her heart. And the deep look inside discovered Jesus. Basically, she was giving her life to Jesus by becoming "saved". In the poem Nikki Giovanni converted to Christianity at one point, But not an ordinary Christian. She was more of an equal to Jesus. Nikki Giovanni is trying to explain herself as a modern day martyr that has been blessed with a spiritual gift.
             Nikki Giovanni stated that she sat on the throne with Allah. Once again she is referring herself as an equal to a God or supernatural being. Allah is Arabic for God and is the God figure in the Muslim religion, thought to have sent his prophet Muhammad to teach the ways of Allah to the people of the world. A throne symbolizes ruling over the kingdom. The kingdom is the whole world and the person who sits on the throne rules the world as a God figure.
