A Cellular World

Remembering to my younger days before there cell phones, e-mail, and Internet chat rooms. It seems that life was a little less complicated. Now with the new technology almost everyone has a cell phone. Many times I am sitting in a theater and someone's cell phone will ring at the most awkward moment. It is a big inconvenience to the other viewers of the movie. Cell phones are a very beneficial advance in technology; however, they are complicating our everyday lives.
Just imagine sitting in a restaurant enjoying a nice, quiet evening, and then there is a loud and obnoxious ring. The person answers and proceeds to carry on a conversation like he or she is at home alone. This is a very annoying habit that many people have. According to John Stone, "But all are immeasurably worsened by the three evils of mobile technology: the ring, the unwanted private "conversation," and the potential ring (Stone 1)." This is so true in many cases because many people misuse their cell phone. Instead of using it for emergencies they use it for casual chatting in public places that makes it a nuisance to many bystanders. .
Almost everyone aging from 12 and older has a cell phone. Ben Charney states, "But with cell phones being used by roughly one in three Americans, there is already a backlash against the rude gabbers: Amtrak even put a ban on cell phones in some cars (Charney 1)." What about the few people that actually has an emergency in the family and need to use their phone? If they are placed in one of those cars that have a cell phone restriction they are unable to do so. Is this fair to punish the entire train because of a few passengers that do not common cell phone etiquette? Many people cannot distinguish between an important call and casual chatting. Cell phones also make it impossible to enjoy a day off of work. Sarah Glazer says, "For example, a parent may leave work early to attend a child's soccer game, but if she spends the whole time taking work calls on her cell phone instead of cheering her little soccer star what has been gained (Glazer 4)?" That example is so true many people do not realize that they can miss so many simple details just by a phone call.
