Australia as a whole is an Affluent nation and because of this, Australia is an effluent nation. Our standard of living is amongst the best that any country could ever hope to offer. With only nineteen million people and one of the biggest continents in the world, it is no wonder that the diversity that occurs across the country, has allowed the economy to experience an extended period of strong, general economic growth. This exceptional economic growth can be attributed to appropriate government monetary and fiscal budgetary policies, along with the strong initiative response to the modern world by many Australian entrepreneurs, Businessmen and women. Australia has had a relatively clean run throughout its short history in regards to matters such as revolutions, wars of independence and no civil unrest. The nation has grown together in relative harmony, Australia has its own identity; our patriotism and interest into the security of our society has led to Australia being a material country. We and the rest of the world, view Australia as a lucky country.
Since Colonization of Australia occurred, permanent settlements have frequently been erected. The trouble with effluents started from these times. As these colonies grow into cities, the population rapidly increased, causing a dramatic rise in the amount of waste being produced.
The earliest form of sewage disposal started in the late 19th century. Pipes and water transported this waste, ultimately to end up into river systems and into our prestige oceans. Even though this dumping of household waste wasn't good for the environment, it was decreasing the numbers of waste related illnesses such as gastro-intestinal disease in the congested areas of cities and settlements. .
As the Australian society becomes more affluent, the standards expected of the waste treatment processors inevitably increases. This combined with society always looking for the more convenient options in regards to the putting away of waste and rubbish, creates great pressure for the government.
