... to fulfill his service? In this fairly short piece Owen shows the reader the harsh reality of war. His use of imagery makes this piece very dynamic. I think that Owen might have felt the same in his time, but unfortunately he didn't live long enough to share his feelings about war after the fact. ... I envision different scenes in which a visitation occurs. Referring to Kathy Fagan, I can understand why she would write a poem as such. Its as if she's conveying her own life in the poetry and trying to hide it all at once. I view the Visitation as a poem that speaks out about how every little thing in this life, in our life is a visitation; A visitation ... . A visitation can bring joy, pain, sorrow, happiness, and so many different things. The main point though, is that it brings something. Kathy Fagan's visitation was probably the birth of her poetry. However, going into the 1940's, roles of women were changing. If women were not married and taking care of their household, then they were expected to be educated and working. Otherwise, they were often shamed and frowned upon in society. Often, people ge...
The poem, "Fog," by Carl Sandburg, and the poem, "Dusting," by Julia Alvarez, show literary elements including imagery, figurative language, sound, rhythm. "Fog" by Carl Sandburg starts off right with a metaphor, he says, "The fog comes on little cat feet," it is also imagery because he wants us to imagine the fog in a catlike way. Her love for him is further accentuated by "Porphyria worshipped me". The verb "worshipped" creates an image of a god or idol Porphyria looks up to with admiration. This again creates his domination over her. This domination however, is opposed by "looked up at her eyes". The word "up"...
