Beauty is Skin Deep


            In Western culture outer beauty may determine the value of a human being. The need for outer beauty and the stereotypical attributes of what "beauty" is, consumes the consumer. Flawless skin, long flowing hair and a face free of wrinkles and pores are characteristics desired by women. The need to look this way is influenced by "standards" of beauty that our culture and media have instilled in the female population. It I ingrained in the heads of women that looking a certain way is important to making them feel and act a specific way. If women don't look like the famous people in the magazines they feel as though they are less of a person. This is a problem in today's society because women need to keep their self-esteem high. They need to feel confident in who they are and not fall victim to stereotypes. When the female population, especially young teenage girls, get wrapped up in trying to be as pretty, thin and popular as the models in magazines they develop unhealthy lifestyles. Teenage girls are growing and developing their outlook and determining who they want to be. With all the emphasis on an unrealistic image of a woman, young girls develop eating disorders and unrealistic and unattainable standards for themselves. .
             The designers of the ad being analyzed are purposely using a famous person for their product and they are aiming to direct the ad toward the women falling in the teenage to middle aged adult. The main character in this ad was meant to look flawless. She is perfect in her physical appearance and in her expression and posture. She is appearing to be perfect. The brand she is representing is hoping that the consumers viewing this ad will purchase the product in hopes of becoming more like the person representing the product. The product being advertised is Aveno skin lotion. Aveno is using Jennifer Aniston, a well know A-list actress, to represent the product.
