Mary was the child of Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon. She was disowned by her father because of his divorce to her mother and was raised separately from her siblings. Edward VI, her brother, was protestant. Mary was Roman Catholic. In Edwards' reign the religion in England was protestant. During Mary's reign she changed all the churches in England back to Roman Catholic. She replaced protestant priests with Roman Catholic ones and changed the bible back to Latin from English.
