Marshall himself interprets the meaning of the great supper itself as representing salvation. ... chapter of Luke 15:3-32, there are three parables where something is lost and as a result of finding that item, it brings happiness and joy. The first parable contains a story of a shepherd who has a hundred sheep but one wanders off. He then goes and looks for the sheep in which he finds the sheep ... on his shoulders and rejoices (Luke 15:6)." Once found he tells his neighbors to rejoice with him as it could have been eating. I believe this parable shows the meaning of God finding sinners and bringing them back to him. Jesus then says, "there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one s...

John Milton's sonnet on his blindness includes an interesting reference to the parable of the talents. In this parable Jesus told his disciples of a rich man who gave three servants money to invest. A "talent" was a vast sum of money. One servant was given 10 talents; another 3 talents; a third servant ... 'd with me useless though my soul more bent / to serve therewith my maker and present / my true account lest he returning chide" The biblical allusion is clearly related to this parable of the talents; and Milton was aware that now that he was blind he would be less able to give a true acco...

Then a Samaritan saw him ... , put him on his donkey, and took care of him. The one most likely not to help him did, and this is what we should do. In the gospel of Mark 4:10-12 Jesus himself explains saying "The secret of the kingdom of God has been given ... so that, "'they may be ever seeing but never perceiving, and ever hearing but never understanding; otherwise they might turn and be forgiven!'" It mostly seems that Jesus spoke in parable so only the pure of heart that were receptive to his t...
... life. Jesus uses parables (probably) because the language for the most part is easy to understand and his audience included a wide variety of persons with different backgrounds and lives. The parable I will be focusing on is the Prodigal Son about a son leaving home and squandering all his money that his father had willed to him. He finally has a self-revelation period ... while "dining" with the swine, and he finally makes the decision to go home and ask for his father's forgiveness. The significance of this parable can be seen in the three major characters of the story (the father, th...

The Jews hated the Samaritans but this is over passed in ... "But how terrible it will be for you who are rich ..how terrible it will be for you who are full now because you will be hungry." Luke also tells a parable of the rich man and the poor man. Luke also sees the universal love embracing the o...
