... in "Mending Wall", Layfayette obviously wants a bond. He continuously refers to him as someone he's known for a long time. "Sit down or lie down, friend; you make me nervous." (pg. 39 l. 87) He also says, "Really, friend..." (pg. 42 l. 179) when trying to be 'friendly' to the doctor. By this repeating word, "friend", Layafayette is reinforcing his desire to develop a relationship ... . But Dr. Magoon isn't responsive at all and in fact says, "Dont touch me, please-- I say, don't touch me please."(pg. 39 l. 86) There is also repetition used here to reinforce his separation to Layfayette. ...
