Steroids

I think the biggest issue in sports right now is the issue of steroids and professional athletes. BALCO a lab in California supposedly distributed steroids to many professional athletes. For the sake of this question I am just going to talk about the baseball side of steroids. First of all the cultural premise I think is behind it would be that people want the fame and money that comes along with being the best at what you do. Steroids typically enhance your performance and allow you to achieve bigger and better accomplishments. For instance, Barry Bonds recently broke the home run record. Well, he is one of the athletes accused of doping and testified against using steroids. To add to his feat Barry Bonds, is 40 years old. Some of the greatest hitters in the game like, Ted Williams and Hank Aaron, were not able to produce much after age 36. And if you were to take a picture of Ted Williams and Hank Aaron on their major league debut, it would've look very similar on their last game (as far as physique). But when you look at Barry Bonds" rookie picture you will see that he has basically doubled in size. Is it possible to get more muscles as you get older, of course, but is it possible to get better as you get older? Not likely. .
I think professional baseball needs to gain control over the players union for which some reason has more power than the league itself, and put in a "Baseball Law" that all players are subject to random drug tests. The reason for the drug test is simple: Records are made to be broken, but not broken by cheating. If Babe Ruth took steroids could you imagine how many home runs he would've averaged a season? As kids you are taught not to cheat, well enhancing you performance is not only cheating but it is unhealthy. .
The content I would use to inform the decision makers would be fear factor. Drugs are not healthy and steroids are a drug. I don't think using the cheating thing would go over as well as the health issue.
