Being in the home setting, parents can correlate each of their lessons together, giving their child a feeling of completion. Topics that are taught can be adjusted so that they are interesting to the child, which in turn can lead to a better understanding.
All children do not have the same type of learning style. Much of how the information is absorbed by the child, is based on the manner in which the material was presented. Public school teachers sometimes teach in a way that benefits all learning styles. They discuss the lesson verbally and use visuals or hands on experience when possible. However, this may not always be the best thing for all children. Classrooms have a variety of learners, and in order for an education to be beneficial, each child has to be equally stimulated to reach their full potential. If students are more visual learners, parents can plan their lessons around that unique style. Parents can purchase material that is visually and intellectually motivating to encourage the learning process. .
Another justification for choosing home-schooling over public schooling is because children do not learn at the same pace. Some children are slower learners, while others catch on much quicker and have a deeper understanding of the topic. For the slower learning children, learning at the same pace as the more advanced learners is a disadvantage and vice versa. The slower learners need more one on one attention, while the more advance student has to wait and can not proceed until everyone has finished. Parents are concerned that "struggling student[s] [are] not getting the right help, [and are concerned] the gifted students are ignored" (Pappano para 5). Their education is being limited due to the fact that they are waiting for the rest of their classmates. On the other hand, a home-school setting provides the parents with the opportunity to teach their child at a pace that is most suitable for the child.
