Freedom and success

When most people think of the word "education", they think of a student as a sort of animate empty box. Into this empty box, the teachers are supposed to stuff "education". But genuine education is not inserting the stuffings of information into person, but eliciting knowledge from students; it is the drawing out of what is in the mind. In the article "I Just Wanna Be Average" (We Are America, Page 211), the author, Mike Rose goes on to say that his English teacher, Jack MacFarland, taught and approved him to be aroused motivation. MacFarland's approval and good grades mean that he helped students improve their self-esteem most by helping and motivating to exceed standards and cherished the student's freedom to think, but not inserting knowledge. Arousing self-esteem and cherishing the students" thought are the most important part of education.
Education involves a solid student and teacher relationship, as well as both student and teacher incorporating imagination into the teaching process. Both student and teacher must work together to reach an understanding of education in the classroom; this enables students to grasp full advantage of the material being taught by the teacher. Knowledge in most cases, allows you to see yourself, and to understand what you can produce. However, when I was at the age of fourteen in Korea, where education system followed the Dutch system, I had to memorize the names of all the world's major cities, from Los Angeles to Baghdad because my geography class teacher, Ki-ho Kim, followed school guidelines but not his own enthusiasm. I could not understand why I had to memorize the names of all the cities even if I can know whenever I want. It discouraged me in my geography class as well as further classes. From that time I lost an interest in school life.
Typically, school guidelines are couched in terms of learning and memorizing skills, rather than the content of learning or the freedom of thinking.
