Bio-Engineered Foods

Bio-engineered foods have often been excused as being an act of tampering with God's work. But truly, could wrong views and opinions on the controversial topic cause lives in third world countries? Recent debate and research has shown that bio-engineered foods are in fact just as safe to eat as naturally grown foods, yet it's the vulnerable and people in need who still refuse to eat them. With the U.S.'s growing use of biotech foods in places most people wouldn't expect or even know them to be at (such as Taco Bell, or your local convenient store), the refusal rate to eat these foods have grown immensely, and the stirring reactions amongst individuals seem to be getting more biased as each day progresses.
According to an article found off of the U.S. Consulate General (http://www.usconsulate.org.hk/usinfo/biotech/) website, the refusal of eating these bio-engineered foods has begun to run the risk of having extraordinarily damaging consequences for some of the most susceptible people on the face of the Earth. The three year-old European Union's ban on bio-engineered food has caused unreasonable doubt amongst countries that are on the verge of starvation about whether or not they should accept free food aid, including bio-engineered foods from the United States (Zwaniecki, 1). Misinterpretations and prejudiced opinions can not only cost lives in poor countries, it may even cause an unneeded uproar amongst people who are uninformed about biotech foods.
After extensive studies and research, biotech foods have been proven to be safe, and are consumed by big numbers in the United States each day. Not only do these foods help supply more provisions to the masses, it's just as safe as eating conventional foods. Biotechnology is the key to raising agricultural productivity, which in the long run may as well help to alleviate world hunger, malnutrition, and poverty in the world (Zwaniecki, 1).
