There is only so much you can give before requiring the money for your own needs. Jim Plunkett is another name in the sports industry who doesn"t think twice about giving. Jim has raised over one million dollars himself and gave it all to the Scholarship funds throughout America. Jim is grateful for the lifestyle he is now able to live and says " I"m in a position where I can support many charities. I"ve had a lot of luck my way." Jim knows how fortunate he is to be wealthy and wants to share his wealth with others. Among all the charities and foundations that athletes give to, by far the greatest example is the one they call "tithing". Tithing is a biblical guideline that states that 10% of someone's income must be given to the Lord. Famous athletes like Chi Chi Rodriguez, Darryl Strawberry, Jack Nicklaus, Greg Olsen, Howard Johnson, Tim Burke and Doug Jones are just some of the millionaire superstars who give at least 10% of all their money to churches around their area. Darryl Strawberry simply put it, "it's not my money it's the Lords." The NHL team the San Jose Sharks have their own foundation in which they just show up to certain cities and talk to the people. There is always a collection box at the front gate in which people give the donations of their choice. The foundation has made over $ 700,000/ year and the owner of the foundation says that " we probably wouldn"t make a dime if it wasn"t for the players." Even though all athletes give to different charities they all agree on one thing. The fact that they are the ones going to the charities not the other way around. Even with all the money athletes are handing out, people are still criticizing them saying it is not enough. Athletes give out millions a year accounting for a greater percent of their total income compared to a much smaller percentage given by rich owner's and companies.
Pro athletes are the most elite of their kind and deserve the income they get.
