There's always the chance of the innocent being in the wrong place at the wrong time. A handful of evidence from strong lawyers that could sentence someone to life in prison and even the death penalty. One could be spending and ending his life in captivity for simply walking down the wrong street on the wrong day. That person does not deserve to serve the time that nots rightfully his. For example in the movie Legally Blonde, the new wife would have rather gone to jail than to ruin her reputation. If it had not been for the silly, but clever ideas that her lawyer had to cross examine the daughter of the man that was killed, then this would be the perfect case of the wrongly accused. This could happen in any criminal case. There have been approximately two dozen people who have been executed who did not commit the crime they were being accused of, that we know of. The danger of capital punishment, when we execute, an innocent person is that the real criminal is still lurking the streets, looking for his next victim. The real question is, who in their right mind could murder, sexually assault, or any other crime, including capital punishment to another human being. And in the event that the person really was innocent, the real killer can be found, by reinvestigating the crime, or by him slipping up and making the same mistake twice. .
The death penalty is cruel and unusual punishment that must be eliminated from today's society. Is it morally right to end a person's life? To extinguish a person's life is cruel no matter what way it is administered. Many states believe it is ok to execute someone since they have upgraded from the traditional electric chair to the more modern gas chamber or lethal injection, more commonly used now if executed. Anyway of executing someone is barbaric. If every crime's punishment was " a tooth for a tooth, an eye for an eye" what would happen to society? Why are these trials or prosecutions publicized? The American society knows too much about people they don't know and not enough on how to save their tax money.
