King Tutankhamen was not an important king, but is well known today because of his tomb, and treasures. Carter & Carnarvon discovered wonderful treasures, most of which were still in one piece, despite the theories that the tomb was ransacked millions of years ago. Tutankhamen's four- room chamber contained more than 5,000 objects. Tutankhamen's royal body had been mummified, but his head and shoulders had been covered with a life like gold mask. Tutankhamen served as king of Egypt from approximately 1347 B.C. until 1339 B.C. The cause of Tutankhamens death is from a blood clot in his head. Ay succeeded Tutankhamen as king and held his funeral in the Valley of the Kings, which is a burial center at Thebes. King Tut was married, even though he was a child. He married Ankhesenamun, the 3rd daughter of Queen Nafertiti, who was just a few years older than he was. After Tut's death, Ay then married Ankhesenamun, Tut's widow. Many Egyptians believed in life after death. They would bury their possessions and items with them to use in their afterlife. The items found in Tut's tomb are on display in Cario. Tut's tomb lay in the Valley, just to reach the valleys floor tens of thousands of tons of rock and sand was removed by men filling baskets, and boys carrying them to a vacant lot, emptying them, and returning again and again. They all worked very hard. Archaeologists worked only for a short time. The emptying of Tutankhamen's tomb lasted several years.
