Individual vs. Majority

Many deprive themselves of learning by seeing only what they want to see. They follow what is popular instead of what is right because they fear being discriminated against. Burt from "Inherit the Wind" surpasses the need to follow the same path and seize other ideas such as the scientific theory of evolution. This leads him into a "monkey trial". The townspeople of Hillsboro, Tennessee despite this idea of evolution because it does not follow the teachings of the Bible. They disapproved of the fact that fundamental ideas were being questioned. As a majority following the traditional ideals, they shut out new ideas brought forth, depriving others of their individual rights to think. Seeking to break through the barrier set by the people was difficult because the majority deprived one with their individual rights.
The people only saw what they already knew and were unwilling to see new teachings. By having a majority in believing in the old ways, it seemed to set the right way. They believed that everything God said was right and so whatever Brady said, must be right. When Brady loses all sense of dignity and reason and becomes an incoherent tirade, the people turned away from him. What they once believed in to be "right", now was not, but they were still right because they had a majority on their side. The townspeople were ignorant, not allowing to be enlightened when given the opportunities. They said the teachings of the Bible were the only coherent way of describing the existence of life, but if thoroughly read through, its teachings contradicted itself. It said that Adam and Eve were the parents of the human race, but in the Bible, it tells how Ms. Cain enters the picture out of no where. The Bible also talks about how all sex is an original sin, so if one does interact with another, do they become unholy? Brady also talks about how Darwin's theory is wrong because it is not in the bible, but in the bible, it does not talk about the phone or electricity and they use it.
