Grandfather of the Year

Wrighten was born in South Carolina on a little island called Edisto Island. When John grew up he wanted to become a lawyer, and at this time in the world, the white man was not having that for a Africian American. My grandfather studies and studied so that he could pass the bar examine, but they would not allow him to pass. He finally decided to take it to the Supreme Court where the court ruled in his behalf. This helped for the first black law school to be built on the campus of South Carolina State University. He finally received is law liscence after taking the bar examine four times and failing at the white mans hand.He was a civil rights activist. He was the first black to ever run for senator in the state of South Carolina. In the event of him running, the kkk did not like the idea of him running, being that he was black and decided that they would make a statement by burning crosses all across the state of South Carolina. They plotted on many occasions to kill him and his family and in their attempt they failed. John F. Wrighten also help organized the NAACP. He lead the march on the store Kress that was at one time located on King street, in the heart of Charleston, South Carolina. This march came about when the white man refuse the service of blacks and they refuse to leave until they were treated the way the white people was being treated. In spite of all that my grandfather went through, he never once gave up. He paved a way along with so many others for his children, grandchildren, greatgrand children and many others that have become get in this world today. This is why I would consider him to be grandfather of the year.
