Dimensions of Culture

 

            In this paper I will give my point of view in which things differ from living in the south compared to living in the North. The paper will define diversity. The paper will also include a brief summary of life in Mississippi weighed against the life in Michigan. .
             One of the greatest strengths of our country is diversity. As Americans we value our differences in talents, background, cultures, experiences and lifestyles.
             Diversity is the presence of a wide range of variation in the qualities or attributes under discussion. In a social context, the term diversity refers to the presence in one population of a wide variety of cultures, opinions, and ethnic groups (Webster). There is very little difference between people but that little difference makes a great deal of difference (Wilkinson). I found myself over two thousand miles away from the world I've known and grown to love. In search of a change from the normal country lifestyle. One of the things I miss most about the small town I grew up in is the kindest of others. It is funny how we take things for granted. People knew you by getting to know you. I was raised to judge a person from what I knew of that person. What matter the most was who they were on the inside. In the city on the other hand things are different. It is the norm to categorize a person from your perceptions of them. Living in Detroit has taught me that no one cares to know you most people in Detroit are cruel and judgmental. .
             For instance, in spending four weeks in class with grown women all with the same goal. I found myself reaching beyond my limitations to accomplish my goal of passing this particular class with an A+. Learning as I went along form members of my class. As everyone presented their power points I took notes on style and delivery. There was something about each classmate that could help me improve my own presentation style. The time came for my team to present.
