Drugs

Drugs of any shape or kind are dangerous. They are not just dangerous to those who take them but also to those around the drug user. Drugs are how families get torn apart; it's how people lose all of their money and all of their material possessions. No matter what, drugs will tear everything apart until something is done to help the drug user put an end to their bad habit. I know all of this because I know a drug user. His name is Steve and he is my stepfather. .
When it all began you would not have known he was addicted to drugs. He was a man who owned his own business, and who tried to work hard to keep that business going. But he had a secret life, one that revolved around drugs. Steve tried hard to not let it show to his new family by telling us he had to work but really he was out doing drugs, but little by little it came out. It was finally exposed one night when Steve was supposed to pick my mother and the kids up from school. He did not show up on time, in fact he did not show up for three hours after the time he was supposed to. So we all started walking home because there was no one to come get us. But then Steve finally appeared, and we all watched as he came down the road and as he threw something from the car window just before reaching us.
My mother was furious with him when she found out. But after talking with him for awhile she forgave him. She thought that if she tried hard enough that she could help him, change him, and make him better. But it did not work. The months went by and he was still addicted to his drugs. He took whatever money he could find whether or not it was his and spend it on his addiction. Soon it got to be so bad that my mother had to hide money from him. This only forced Steve to work to get himself some money. At one point it got so bad that my mother emptied out her savings account so she could have money and so Steve could not get it. Even when my mother took us kids out to eat we had to be careful.
