Functional area 2: Healthy.
My objective for Infant's, mobile Infants., toddlers, and preschoolers, in my home will be to prevent the spreading of germs, to prepare nutritious meals, and develop healthy habits for all the children in my care.
For the first activity for young infants ages 4 months of age. I will practice hand washing during the routines such as, diaper changing, feedings and when ever necessary. The activity is to hold them tightly but gently and lean infants over the sink and place a small amount of liquid hand soap in the palm of their hands," rubbing them together while I sing, scrub, scrub to make more suds, rub and rub together, this is repeated twice, before hands are rinsed and dried with paper towel.
Materials needed: Soft liquid hand soap, step stool, and a song.
The second activity for mobile infants of 11 months of age is to prepare lots of fresh fruit for lunch, allowing them to grasp or pick up different fruits, feeling the fruits texture and tasting the fruit flavors is always a favorite activity for a mobile infants.
It is important to choose an age appropriate fruit, like banana, kiwi, peaches, or even plums.
The first activity for toddlers ages of 18 months to 35 months is making a fruit salad together. First we rinse off and everyone is able to prepare the salad by taking hand full of raisins or strawberries or apples slices and placing them on a bowl. All the children participate by tasting the banana and other soft fruits.
Materials needed: Variety of fruits and a bowl.
The first activity for preschoolers ages of 3 to 5 years of age is to make sure they each have their own cups and are taught not to share food or drinks with each other. Beds are labeled and everyone has their own cup, blanket, and cot. Each child is congratulated and praised when they accomplished by this big effort they have done. I will assist them by placing their cot in the same order each day and by attaching their names which they will eventually learn to recognize.
