Issues and Challenges of integrating

 


             Based on a review of a sample of related literature , the present paper attempts to identify issues and challenges that may limit successful integration of technology in teacher education . In the light of the findings of the reviewed selected pieces of research from the available literature a number of suggestions are formulated to contribute towards an effective integration of technology into teacher training institutions .
             Issues and Challenges :.
             Requiring teachers to possess needed technology literacy and to integrate it into their curriculum , though a laudable enterprise , is a tough challenge. While many teachers agree to the importance of technology in education and express a desire to pursue advancement of their skills , we are still facing some big challenges :.
             1. How to make teachers realize the true potential that technology can provide.
             2. How to convince them that it is worth their time and effort , and .
             3. How to lay out a systematic approach to actively involve all relevant personnel such as teachers , students , administrators ,and others to integrate technology in education (Pan , 1998).
             To meet these challenges , a number of factors and issues reported by many researchers need to be discussed and dealt with appropriately (Willis et al 195 ; Pan , 1998 ; Hay , 1996).

             Access to Computers Availability of equipment .
             The most common reasons given for the low level of computer use in schools are limited access to equipment (Baron & Goldman , 1995 ; Bosh & Cardinale , 1993 ) . Zehr (1997) indicates that school teachers do not possess sufficient resources , such as software and hardware to engage their students in meaningful technological activities .
             Preparing technologically proficient teachers will require expanding technology use among teacher educators. Availability of equipment is an important component in enhancing the integration of technology in learning and teaching .
